Ravens PR Continues to Be Tone-Deaf, Shares Video of Fans Cheering Ray Rice

The Baltimore Ravens, who held an awkward press conference accompanied by puzzling tweets this past May, do not have an especially firm handle on public sentiment about the lightness of Ray Rice’s two-game suspension. As PFT’s Michael David Smith wrote earlier, it’s not surprising that fans were applauding — fans are traditionally amoral when it comes to the off-field transgressions of players who perform for their teams — but it’s nevertheless surprising that the team would publicize this video and invite the negative reaction sure to follow.

Update: Here’s one of the featured stories on the Ravens’ website.

The quotes in the story are just…

"“I have on number 27 to show the fans, and the world, that I am supportive of Ray Rice,” said Jerra Byrd of Randallstown, Md. “He has been forgiven by his wife. He is moving on with his life. He didn’t ask for the two-game suspension.” “I’m wearing his jersey because he is still a good man,” added Debbie Lindling of Baltimore. “I’m happy to support Ray Rice, just like he has always supported our community.”"
