Aidy McGeady put Everton, briefly, ahead 1-0 on newly promoted Leicester City Saturday morning on the English Premier League’s opening day. At first glance the goal might not look like much, but it’s pretty impressive to put that much swerve to bend it in from that close range, beating Foxes keeper Kasper Schmeichel.

McGeady joined Everton in January, coming over from Spartak in the Russian League. Although he didn’t make much of an impact during his initial run with the club, the winger looks like he’ll be a contributor for Roberto Martinez’s team this year — or at least provide another option since the club’s depth will be tested playing both in the Premier League and Europa League concurrently. Either way, Everton fans will be happy to have anyone scoring goals with any regularity to help ease the burden on striker Romelu Lukaku.

People on Twitter or other forms of social media barely had enough time to rave about the Irishman’s tally before Leicester equalized on a goalmouth scramble at the other end. American keeper Tim Howard’s shutout streak to start the season barely lasted 20 odd minutes.
