Junior Malanda Provides Soccer's Latest "Worst Miss of All Time" Contender

Junior Malanda, a Belgium midfielder for German club Vfl Wolsburg, offered up his entry in the “worst miss of the season/all time” sweepstakes, during Friday’s Bundesliga curtain-raiser against Bayern Munich. Social media was quick to dub this with the aforementioned “worst miss” label, but in fairness the ball does fall to Malanda at an awkward angle off the crossbar and hits him in the knee at full speed, so I’ll cut him a little slack … even if the goal was wide-open for a simple tap-in.

But yes, it was a tragic miss and will assume “worst ever” status … until the next one, which shouldn’t be too long given how things work in 2014.

Bayern, the defending Bundesliga champions, won 3-1.
