The first 11 no-hitters in Philadelphia Phillies franchise history were all singular efforts, but the 12th one – a 7-0 win over the Braves on Labor Day – was the first time multiple pitchers got in on the act. Cole Hamels went six innings, and three relievers each tossed a hitless inning, with Jonathan Papelbon finishing the game in the 9th.

It’s definitely the highlight of another forgettable season in Philadelphia. The Phillies (63-74) are in the basement of the NL East again, and figure to be there next year, too. The Braves are in the NL Wild Card hunt, but probably won’t make it. Yes, the most successful professional sports franchise in Atlanta this year was the NBA’s Atlanta Hawks. Yes, I’m already discounting the Falcons.
