The presiding Justice of the Peace, Melanie Tobiasson, said she would refer to the defendant by his given name, Jonathan Koppenhaver, which War Machine’s lawyer, Brandon Sua, will try to use to the defense’s advantage. From the Las Vegas Review-Journal:

"“The public, as well as the people, will understand that War Machine is a character,” Sua said. “He is an MMA fighter. He is controversial. And people need to understand where to draw that line from his character as War Machine and a person as Jon Koppenhaver, because that’s who he is.”"

A “character.” War Machine has already been to jail twice.
