Rob Lowe's Condom Joke About USC Wound Up on ESPN

Rob Lowe wrote a couple of tweets Saturday about the USC/Stanford game, including the one posted above. Like many on social media, Lowe isn’t above some sophomoric humor and or double-entendres. (Trojans are a brand of condoms, get it? Cue Beavis and Butthead style snickering.)

By Twitter standards, Lowe’s quip is literally G-rated. However the tweet made it through the screeners at ESPN and wound up flashed across the bottom of the screen, pasted below an oblivious Robert Smith. Someone noticed and, as is the nature of things in 2014, the screengrab wound up on Twitter:

In fairness, this isn’t even remotely close to the snafu a Houston station made this week with an on-screen Twitter scroll, but perhaps as time goes by more producers will realize the Twitter/live TV combo often goes together about as well as nuts and gum.

The Trojans wound up with the last laugh in this scenario, winning 13-10.
