We picked a bad week to stop sniffing glue. It’s impossible to have a full #hottake about everything that is coming out of the NFL off-the-field circus/soap opera these days, so for a limited appearance, we are introducing a Roundup of some of the other NFL story lines that have happened today.

Calvin Johnson speaks out

Johnson was quoted by CBS Detroit, and expressed his right to free speech.

“With this whole situation, it’s very unfortunate, and then you have pictures come out and stuff like that, which made it even worse,” Johnson continued. “I’m going to discipline my kids, so – and can’t nobody tell me how to discipline my kids, but like I say, that’s not my situation right now. My situation would be private. It’s not a public matter when you discipline your family, but unfortunately for him it’s become that, and like I say, I don’t think there’s anything wrong with disciplining your child. It teaches them discipline at the same time, and we all need that.”

Of course we don’t have to agree. Parents have broad discretion, but not absolute discretion when behavior runs afoul of the law.

Gloria Allred Holds a Press Conference

Gloria Allred held a public show to jump into this matter, which tells us we have met critical mass for the afternoon. The press conference was in regard to the relationship and alleged abuse of Rasheedah Watley by Brandon Marshall.Gloria Allred does not represent Rasheedah Watley, who had her lawsuit against Marshall dismissed two years ago. Allred was there with a friend of Watley and Watley’s father.

Expect more of this, and by this I mean more Gloria Allred.

“We are not looking at a lawsuit, we are not at a claim. We are working to improve the process. And that is what we seek.”

Three out of 10 NFL Players Expected to Develop Neurological Problems, You Might Have Missed It

Last Friday, late afternoon, news trickled out that expert opinion used in the NFL concussion litigation said that three of 10 NFL players was expected to develop neurological problems. I was getting ready to dig into that and write something for the site when Adrian Peterson. The only better way to bury news than to run it on Friday late afternoon is to have it obscured by a massive news story that runs on Friday late afternoon.

Patrick Hruby dug into some of the issues, accusing the NFL of using the sickest former players as hostages, trying to get a favorable settlement while not wanting to pay for those who are diagnosed in the future.
