It wouldn’t be NFL season without some drama swirling around the Dallas Cowboys, would it? The latest news comes late Tuesday that former first-round pick Morris Claiborne blew off a walkthrough and left the team facility after being told he was demoted on the depth chart in favor of Orlando Scandrick, who missed the first two games of the season serving a drug-related suspension. ESPN Dallas’ Jean-Jacques Taylor writes that Claiborne, “angrily left the club’s Valley Ranch training facility” following the news.

The Cowboys traded up to take Claiborne with the sixth-overall pick in the 2012 draft. He’s underwhelmed with Dallas, making only three interceptions in 28 games. Sunday vs. the Rams he allowed 108 yards receiving, including Brian Quick’s a 51-yard touchdown in the Cowboys 34-31 win.

Adding to the drama, Dallas owner Jerry Jones went on his weekly radio show on 105.3 the FAN and talked about Claiborne under-performing. Jones said, “Is he what we had hoped for at this point when we drafted him with the sixth overall pick, giving up the [second-round] pick to go up to the sixth pick to get him? No, but he’s going to be a good player.”

Taylor speculates that Claiborne could be fined by head coach Jason Garrett for his conduct.

The Dallas defense, which came into the season with all sorts of questions, have given up 69 points through its first three games.
