Asamoah Gyan, the Ghanian striker who ended the U.S. 2010 World Cup campaign and scored twice in 2014, has denied involvement in an alleged human sacrifice ritual. Ghanian rapper Castro and a female friend, Janet Bandu, disappeared on jet skis while visiting a resort with Gyan’s friends and family on July 6. The pair were presumed drowned, but their bodies have not been recovered.

Per the Gyan family statement, Castro left the group, who had returned to the resort to play volleyball.

"When Castro got to Peace Holiday Resort Janet Bandu requested to ride on the jet ski with him, and he obliged her. While she was climbing on board Castro’s jet ski, Baffour Gyan noticed that she was not wearing a life jacket. He immediately shot up to his feet and remonstrated with Castro to ensure that Janet wore a life jacket before setting off. Castro sped off, as soon as Janet sat behind him, toward the estuary – in the direction of where the Volta joins the Atlantic. They have not returned, eighty (80) odd days since they set off."

The family’s statement denied “ludicrous” rumors, including that Gyan murdered Castro as part of a “spiritual sacrifice to enhance his career.” It also apologized for an altercation with a journalist, who had questioned Gyan about the incident, that led to Gyan’s brother being charged with assault.

No matter how crazy NFL storylines get, international soccer will always one-up it.
