Miguel Cabrera Has Turned Down His Playoff Bonus Because He Just Wants a Ring

Miguel Cabrera only cares about winning. That’s right. As Meghan Trainor is to the bass, Miguel Cabrera is to the World Series ring. On Wednesday Cabrera refused to sign a paper that would earn him a playoff bonus. Via USA TODAY Sports:

"Cabrera was sitting at his locker before the Tigers’ workout Wednesday in Baltimore when Max Scherzer came by with a clipboard containing the sheets players must sign to receive their shares of the post-season playoff pool."

While most people will focus on Cabrera refusing the bonus, I think it should be noted that Max Scherzer is basically walking around the clubhouse with a sign-up sheet that will result in the disbursement of millions of dollars. None of the people from the Tigers’ front office or Major League Baseball should be in charge of this? Does this responsibility come with the Cy Young? Just a pitcher with a clipboard. Sure.

According to Hardball Talk, the 2012 playoff bonuses ran between $16,999 and $377,002, depending on how far the team advanced. For Carbera, who is making $22,000,000 this season, any playoff bonus is a pittance compared to his annual salary. Luckily, he already has a ring from 2003.
