Robert Griffin III is back!

According to a report from NBC’s Dianna Russini, RGIII  will return to the field for Washington Sunday in Minnesota. Griffin, the No. 2 pick in the 2012 NFL draft, injured his ankle in week two against Jacksonville, and hasn’t been active for a game since.

It seems like a risky move to bring back RGIII so quickly – especially given that the Redskins have a bye the following week – after Colt McCoy played so well Monday against Dallas. But one has to assume that Washington coach Jay Gruden feels like the Redskins (3-5) are suddenly back in the playoff mix in the weak NFC, and against an occasionally-formidable Minnesota defense, perhaps going into the bye 4-5 could invigorate the Redskins for the stretch run.

Not to go crazy, but the Redskins have a decent shot of picking up another game in the NFC East this week: the Eagles travel to Houston, the Cowboys host red-hot Arizona, and the Giants are home to Indianapolis. If that trio goes 0-3, and the Redskins win … season on?

Also, RGIII famously rallied the team in the second half of his rookie season to catapult them to the playoffs. I thought this breathtaking play was the highlight of his rookie year, maybe even his NFL career.
