Twins Ditch Pinstripes, Add Gold Trim for New Home Uniforms

Out with the old, in with the new appears to be the modus operandi for the Minnesota Twins these days. The club fired longtime skipper Ron Gardenhire and brought in Paul Molitor to replace him. Today the Twins also ditched their traditional pinstriped home uniforms — in place since 1987 — in favor of a new “primary” home uniform that added gold trimming.

Why gold you ask? Gold isn’t a color you immediately associate with the Minnesota Twins. Good news, the Twins have a great explanation for it in infographic form, no less! The gold Minnesota Kasota Gold trim, you see, “symbolizes the signature Mankato Limestone at Target Field.”

Duh. (To be fair it’s very possible this association is obvious for Minnesotans.)

Although the Twins brass didn’t ask me for my input, I’d have suggested going back to these powder blue road uniform beauties, but again, the Twins — for some reason — didn’t consult me before making the switch. They did appear to talk to rock enthusiasts so let’s call it even.
