Matthew Thomas earned his targeting ejection. Sometimes, with a bang-bang play in the secondary, it can be hard to tell whether the contact was helmet to helmet or how egregious it was, versus just two athletes flying around the field. Not here.

This was a trick play where the ball was flipped back to Josh Bordner, and he attempted a throw downfield. The ball was gone, and Thomas took several steps, then compounded it by lower his arms and leading with the helmet right into Bordner’s. You have to wonder what he was thinking.

Thomas was ejected after a short review, and will be suspended in the first half of next week’s game against Florida. It also gave Boston College a first down in Florida State territory, and Boston College has since tied it. Florida State again playing down to an opponent.
