Mike Shanahan has been floated out as a candidate for various open coaching jobs — Raiders, 49ers, Bears, Bills — and Donovan McNabb, one of his former quarterbacks in Washington, doesn’t think Shanahan is a good candidate for any of them.

“I don’t think it’s a good fit for him to come back because I think the game has passed him by,” McNabb, who’s criticized Shanahan before, said on Fox Sports Live. “He tried that with the Redskins while I was there. He had Kyle Shanahan — his son — being the offensive coordinator. So it was kind of a new style with Gary Kubiak, a guy that he coached, and the same kind of blocking scheme. It worked a little bit, but I don’t think it will work now.”

McNabb and Shanahan famously did not get along during their time together in Washington — and the former quarterback acknowledges that this experience has colored his impressions. So is Shanahan just done coaching in the league? “Unless you’re just thirsty,” McNabb said.
