Sky Sports Won't Post Reporters Outside Soccer Grounds on Deadline Day After Series of Lewd Videobombs

Back in the days when Fox Soccer still existed as a cable channel in the United States, a guilty pleasure for American soccer fans came from watching the live simulcast of Sky Sports transfer deadline day coverage. Somehow a forlorn journalist standing outside the club grounds, waiting for players and managers to arrive or leave made for compelling television, if only for the absurdity of the whole scenario.

Fans in England latched onto it, too, often videobombing the reporters for the duration of their reports. Unlike some of the stuff we see with signs at College GameDay, the antics by fans on Sky took a decidedly lewd turn in recent years. In turn, Sky won’t send reporters for live shots outside the grounds during coverage of  Deadline Day later this month.

This excerpt from the Guardian is hilarious, if not surreal, detailing some of the recent developments:

"Those included a purple dildo being shoved in the ear of one journalist who was on camera at Everton, the appearance of a blow-up doll and fans outside Selhurst Park chanting: “We fucking hate Sky Sports” and putting up a banner saying “Sky Sports – killing our game since 1992”."

Ah the perils of live television …
