Bryce Harper took to social media to pay tribute to the late Jerry Tarkanian. The former UNLV coach passed away at age 84 on Wednesday and Harper, the Nationals star outfielder and Las Vegas native, visited to the Thomas & Mack Center wearing a jacket with the names of the starters (along with Tarkanian’s) from the 1990 UNLV team which beat Duke for the NCAA Championship.

It bears mentioning that Harper was born in 1992, the same year Tarkanian resigned as coach of the Runnin’ Rebels. That said, Harper is the same guy who’s often cited Mickey Mantle as his favorite baseball player, so he has an appreciation of sports history. If anything Harper’s tributes on Instagram help reflect the massive impact Tarkanian left on the Las Vegas sports scene.
