NFL Combine Measurements in 2015: Dorial Green-Beckham Flies into the Top 10?

Offensive players are being measured at the NFL Combine today. Here are some numbers you can use:

Jameis Winston, Florida State QB: 6-foot-3, 231 pounds. Not fat. A tad shorter than most thought he’d be (Ben Roethlisberger, someone he’s been compared to, was 6-foot-4 at the Combine).

Marcus Mariota, Oregon QB: 6-foot-3, 222 pounds. So he’s as tall as Winston! He’s slightly smaller than Colin Kaepernick (6-foot-5, 233 pounds), who he is often compared to because they’re both tall and skinny and fast. When Mariota runs a sub 4.6 40, this will happen next: Mariota will emerge as the No. 2 overall prospect in the draft. People will forget the offense he’s used to, and focus on his size, throwing, and speed. But we knew all of this! Love the Combine.

Dorial Green-Beckham, the troubled-but-talented wide receiver, measured a whopping 6-foot-5, 237-pounds (12 pounds heavier than he was listed in college). That’s terrifying. Are you ready for this? Calvin Johnson at the Combine: 6-foot-5, 239 pounds. (He ran a 4.35 40 with a 42.5 inch vertical.) Randy Moss didn’t show up at the Combine, but ran a 4.25 40; I can’t find an exact measurement of Moss’s from 1998, but it appears he was 6-foot-4 and 210 pounds.

If DGB runs well and can interview well and stay out of trouble for the next 10 weeks, he’ll be in a lot of Top 10s, ahead of Alabama’s Amari Cooper.

TJ Yeldon, the terrific Alabama running back, is something of a forgotten man in the Gurley/Gordon discussion. Mildly interesting: Yeldon checked in slightly taller (6-foot-1) than Gurley and Gordon (both 6-foot), but heavier (226 pounds). Gurley weighed 222, Gordon 215. For fun: Le’Veon Bell, arguably the best back in the NFL right now, was 6-foot-1, 230-pounds at the Combine in 2013. If Yeldon runs a sub 4.5 40, I can see the discussion about him shifting from late 2nd/early 3rd to late 1st/early 2nd.
