Someone Made a Rise and Fall of WWE Parody Trailer

One of WWE Network’s original series has been The Rise and Fall of WCW, a documentary that’s, well, exactly what it sounds like. In this case, WWE has the benefit of being history’s victor, and has told the story accordingly. The result is a series that is instructive at times, but also comes off as haughty on many occasions.

In order to catch up with and surpass WCW, WWE iterated into the famed Attitude Era that offended the likes of Phil Mushnick, Bob Costas, and my parents. After winning the war, they veered back into a PG-style brand which might make sense from a business development standpoint, but makes the product less compelling for adults. The roster also isn’t deep or top-heavy enough to sustain 5+ hours of weekly television programming on Raw and Smackdown, though that might change sooner than later because there are a dozen or so wrestlers in the developmental NXT who look a lot better than much of what we’re seeing in primetime.

This isn’t to say that current WWE programming is all bad — Roman Reigns has improved by leaps and bounds after fans skewered Vince McMahon for pushing him too soon, the Miz/Damien Mizdow angle is hilarious, and the build-up to Sting vs. Triple H at WrestleMania has also been very entertaining. Nevertheless, this parody trailer, which splices in real quotes from the documentary between clips of silly, nonsensical WWE storytelling that annoys the shit out of its audience, is phenomenally well done.
