UCLA beat SMU to advance to the round of 32 in the NCAA Tournament. The end of the game, a goaltending call on this three-point shot by Bryce Alford, is going to be controversial. In my opinion, the ball was just barely in the cylinder — though it was assuredly not going in — and this was a good call. I have colleagues that disagree. Nevertheless, with all the play stoppages embedded in today’s college basketball games, a play of that magnitude is one that should additionally be subject to review.
