Randy Gregory, the Nebraska defensive end who is projected as a Top 10 pick in April’s NFL draft, failed a test at the NFL Combine in February.

Gregory, a fast, powerful menace who compiled 25.5 tackles for loss and 17.5 sacks combined in the last two seasons, told Kim Jones of the NFL Network that he began to struggle with marijuana after failing to qualify academically for Purdue after high school.

"“I don’t wake up every day saying, I’d really love to go smoke,” he said. “It’s not a struggle for me every day (now), it really isn’t. In the past, hell yeah, it’s been a struggle. It really has been. Now, I’m focused on my dream.”"

Ten or 15 years ago, marijuana was called a ‘gateway drug’ but now medical marijuana is legal in over a dozen states, and marijuana has been legalized for recreational use in Washington, Oregon, Colorado and Alaska.

But testing positive for marijuana in the NFL can get you suspended (yes, even if you play for the Denver Broncos or Seattle Seahawks).

So how far does Gregory fall in the draft? Well, you make the call:

"Gregory said he has not smoked marijuana since December, but because his THC levels were so elevated, the drug remained in his system at the combine. Thus, the positive test."

Gregory said he spoke with 29 teams at the Combine, and his marijuana history was mentioned with each of them. He also claims to have never tried any other drugs.

I had Gregory going 8th in a February Mock Draft, 7th in a January mock draft, and 6th in a November mock draft.
