Rick Barnes Out At Texas Within Next 48 Hours Per Report

Texas Longhorns basketball fans’ protracted malaise appears to be over. The Austin-American Statesman is reporting that Texas is “releasing” head basketball coach Rick Barnes. The move is expected to be announced within the next 48 hours. It was not unexpected.
Texas lost in the Round of 64 as an 11-seed to Butler. The Longhorns had not reached a Sweet 16 since 2008. He also failed to get there in 2007 with Kevin Durant playing against college kids.
Let the Gregg Marshall rumors begin in earnest. Or maybe Shaka Smart. Though Longhorns AD Steve Patterson does have an extensive basketball background (former Portland Trailblazers President and GM). Here’s hoping for something weird, amusing and blog-friendly.
