Social media loves to toss the word “epic” around when it comes to anything, but to me, this former reporter getting arrested back in November qualifies as epic. I say that because can you imagine witnessing this? Epic stupidity. The details became available over the weekend after a guilty plea was entered:

"Schmida, 45, was arrested on Nov. 22 after walking out of Denny’s at 923 Duval St. without paying his $9.23 bill. He had just $5 on him. He had told manager Nicole Estep he would go to his white Toyota to get money, and Estep and one of her colleagues followed him outside. Instead of getting money to pay up, he drove off — accelerating with Estep in front of him, forcing her onto the hood. Then he took off, with Estep left on the ground. He was caught on Flagler Avenue by officer Jesse Young. Young put him through a field drunk-driving test after Schmida fumbled with papers and reportedly “mimicked the stance of ‘The Karate Kid.’ ” Young wrote that Schmida failed the test. Schmida reportedly “begged for his freedom not to be arrested” and asked to be driven home. Instead, he went to jail — where he was pepper-sprayed and Tased because he was “noncompliant.”"

He was fired from the Key West Citizen shortly after his arrest. [via Keys Net.com]
