The Pittsburgh Penguins dropped Game 3 to the New York Rangers at home on Monday night. The Rangers now lead their first round series, 2-1. It’s understandable that people around the organization might be a bit edgy. One person who is definitely edgy is Penguins General Manager Jim Rutherford. After the game, Rutherford found himself in the company of Trib Total Media lead columnist Rob Rossi, a self-described “frequent critic.” Via Trib Total Media:

" “Thanks for your support,” Rutherford said repeatedly. “You’re a (expletive) jerk,” Rutherford said repeatedly. Rutherford followed the jerk comment with a suggestion to “go sell ice cream now,” then a challenge to look him in the eye, which I did while explaining my role as Trib Total Media’s lead sports columnist. My role is to provide opinion. “Well, your opinion is (expletive),” Rutherford said. "

Go sell ice cream. Is that some sort of ugly Pittsburgh stereotype? I hope so.

While it wasn’t Bryan Price dropping 77 F-bombs, it still sounds like a pretty great rant to have witnessed. Besides, the numbers are probably similar on a per-reporter F-Bomb count. And those are the types of advanced metrics that Rutherford should take into consideration when rebuilding a contender this offseason. That way everyone will be happy.
