Josh Hamilton, whose offseason alcohol/cocaine relapse made headlines earlier this month, is on the verge of being traded to the Texas Rangers, according to a report.

Hamilton signed a 5-year, $125 million contract in 2012 with the Angels, but it’s been an epic disaster. He’s become a shell of the perennial MVP candidate he was Texas, with just 31 homers in two seasons. He has yet to play this season, and the Angels have made it clear they want nothing to do with him.

A young star whose career was briefly derailed by substance abuse issues, Hamilton starred in Texas from 2008-2012, winning the AL MVP in 2010 and taking the Texas Rangers to a World Series.
