Japan beat the Netherlands 2-1 last night, advancing to the 2015 World Cup quarterfinals. The Oranje goal from Kirsten van de Ven came on some startlingly bad goalkeeping in stoppage time. As many gamblers were aware, the over/under on total goals for the match was 2.5.

There’s zero evidence of foul play there. Though, it’s the sort of thing that will make anyone who has read Declan Hill’s “The Fix” turn conspiracy theorist. Soccer’s biggest baddies aren’t the old guys taking kickbacks on marketing deals.

Here is some excellent buildup play on Japan’s second goal, if you want to see the sort of thing the USWNT has not been doing this tournament.
