Justin Houston has signed a long-term deal with the Kansas City Chiefs, according to Adam Schefter. He becomes the first of the stars to sign a deal on the final day for franchise-tagged players to reach a long-term contract.

We’ll wait to see whether this “guaranteed” money is of the true guaranteed type, or includes injury-only provisions, but Houston is definitely worth a big deal. The money would put him in J.J. Watt territory among defensive players, and if reports are correct on the $52.5 million amount in guaranteed money, would slightly exceed what Watt signed for prior to last season ($51.9 million guaranteed).

UPDATE:

According to Jason La Canfora, the injury guaranteed amount is $52.5 million but the true guarantee is $32.5 million. My thoughts on including the injury guarantee amount in the initial guarantee total were already laid out here.
