Howie Kendrick plays second base for the Los Angeles Dodgers. Like millions of people on Planet Earth, he also maintains an Instagram account. It’s an interesting, varied account. Kendrick posts stuff like his vintage bobble head collection, videos of his son in the batting cage, many very-nice monochrome shots of various spots around Los Angeles and even this one of teammate Justin Turner. Kendrick also posts many pictures of his gun collection. (Many of the gun-related pictures appear to have been deleted after the rant made its way into the blog cycle on Wednesday.)

Apparently his varied, often non-baseball posts drew critical comments from followers, to which Kendrick responded in a since-deleted rant. Dodger blogger Chad Moriyama posted a screengrab to Twitter:

Kendrick started off ranting about fan’s voicing their opinions about baseball and then addressed complaints about his Instagram pictures saying they’re his hobbies. He also dropped this line, “I don’t eat, sleep and breath baseball. I have this other thing called a life.”

There are a lot of ways to go here, but if you’re a professional athlete you’re probably best off a) having the blandest, most-brand enhancing social media accounts possible b) having a private account or c) not having an account at all. Social media is probably a lot more trouble than it’s worth.

Unrelated note: if you go through Kendrick’s account, he could have a post-baseball career as a photographer.
