A teenage Reds fan made headlines on the Internet on Thursday for running onto the field at the Great American Ballpark and filming it as a selfie video. He leaped over the centerfield fence and avoided security … initially.

Here’s a crazy thought: if you do something like this it probably doesn’t bode well to be interviewed on the local news talking about how you planned to pull it off or boast about it on Twitter.

The Cincinnati Enquirer reports that 19-year-old Justin Buchanan turned himself in to police on Thursday who charged him with “criminal trespassing on a place of public amusement, a first degree misdemeanor.”

This are two parts from the Enquirer story worth reading:

"Police wrote on Buchanan’s arrest slip that he was identified through the help of statements he wrote on Twitter. Court documents also noted that Buchanan’s television interviews and additional social media posts assisted in his identification."

Oh, but there’s more …

"In a further attempt to capture his 30 seconds of fame, Buchanan was busy on social media Thursday morning, retweeting a GoFundMe link apparently set up by his friends to raise money to cover his legal fees."

Allow this to serve as another example it is not the smartest idea on numerous levels to run onto the field at a sporting event.

If you’re curious, here’s a link to the GoFundMe page. Note the contributions so far.
