" “He hears he’s traded, he’s upset by it and I don’t know anything about it”- #Mets Manager Terry Collins on Flores https://t.co/5B9tCP9u8k — FOX Sports: MLB (@MLBONFOX) July 30, 2015 "

Terry Collins and the New York Mets are dealing with some of that classic, intense New York blog media scrutiny you’re always hearing about this morning. During Wednesday night’s Mets – Padres game, the rumor that Wilmer Flores was being traded to the Brewers made its way to the clubhouse. Flores was upset to hear the news that he would be leaving the organization he has been a part of since 2007, so he cried. Manager Terry Collins had not been told Flores was being traded so he left him in the game. The trade fell through. So now everybody is upset.

Mets’ GM Sandy Alderson is mad at social media for upsetting Flores. The media is mad at Terry Collins for leaving an upset Flores in the game. Terry Collins is upset at everyone because he’s just trying to manage his team. Mets fans are upset because that’s just how they go through life. See? Everybody is upset! Even you!

Back to the headline… During Terry Collins’ postgame press conference, he (presumably) misspoke and said, “Here’s a gay kid in the middle of the game.” Odds are, Collins stopped himself in the middle of the word “game,” realized he wanted to say, “kid,” and kept going, using “game” a few words later in the same sentence. A lot of people caught it because, well, he did say it. (One NY radio guy even ripped the juicy soundbyte.)

It was definitely not Collins’ intention. Still, this is another thing to pile on top of the Mets with today. Hopefully, they can land a big bat before the trading deadline so all these moments are forgotten.
