Pirates Ball Girl Calls Off Starling Marte, Fails to Make Catch
By Kyle Koster
Ball people. We can’t live with ’em … we could probably live without them. It seems like for every cleanly fielded groundball, there’s an embarrassing gaffe.
The latest bit of tomfoolery took place last night in Pittsburgh where a well-meaning gal interfered with a Jarrod Saltalamacchia foul fly much to the display of a hard-charging Starling Marte.
To his credit, the Pirates outfielder handed the interference better than, say, Moises Alou. Context is important.
Saltalamacchia eventually grounded out to second to make the incident a harmless blooper instead of a meaningful event.
