Joe Philbin Had Never Heard of Dr. Dre Until Seeing "Straight Outta Compton"

If you ever needed proof that the life of a football coach is completely dominated by football and nothing else, look no further than this story about Joe Philbin going to see the NWA biopic, “Straight Outta Compton.” Philbin claims to have never heard of Dr. Dre. This is curious for a couple reasons.

Philbin is 54-year old American male who has been in locker rooms with men aged 18-35 for his entire professional career. Dr. Dre has been a culturally relevant American celebrity for about the last 25 years. Philbin has definitely been in a room while a Dr. Dre song played via cassette, compact disc, MP3 and streaming. Football coaches have no room in their brains for anything besides football.
