Carlos Torres, Daniel Murphy Remind Everyone of the Mets Currently Charmed Life

After years and years of terrible luck, maybe things are finally turning around for the first-place New York Mets. In the bottom of the 10th Thursday night the bounces went the Mets way — twice. First Domonic Brown missed a walk-off home run by about three inches down the right field line.

Next, Jeff Francoeur hit a ball up the middle that bounced directly off pitcher Carlos Torres’ foot and right to Daniel Murphy at first. Torres somehow managed to beat Francoeur to the bag for the final out for the 1-3-1 putout.

Maybe Gary Cohen went a little overboard calling it the “play of the year,” but why split hairs? There’s nothing wrong with a little enthusiasm during the height of a pennant chase in August, right?

Yeah, amazin’.

The game remained tied at 5-5 at the time of this post.
