Meat Loaf Has Been Feuding With the Australian Football League Since 2011

Meat Loaf was the pregame entertainment at the 2011 Australian Football League Grand Final in Melbourne. His 12+ minute performance was underwhelming as you can see in the full video above. When it originally happened, the AFL blamed the weather. At some point over the last few years – possibly when the AFL changed chief executives – that sentiment changed. And as everyone knows, Meat Loaf never forgets. Via Billboard:

"Oh, man. We did a thing called the AFL [Australia Football League], I thought it was like halftime in the middle of a field, which I’ve done for NFL, and World Football League finals, the other Rugby league final, which was all at halftime, with fireworks. These were the cheapest people I’ve ever seen in my life. They said, “we’re gonna have 100 motorcycles,” they had three. Doesn’t sound like you’ll be going back. Well, I don’t know, there’s a promoter that’s interested in bringing us back, and if we can go back, I’m going back. Not for the AFL, but I’m going back to tour and kick their ass."

Meat Loaf blamed his poor performance on pretty serious-sounding health issues. Meanwhile, the new league boss fired back.

Via The Age:

"“I think that we were incredibly generous in respect to him. “When you look at the money he [Meatloaf] got paid for what he produced I think we’re the most generous group in the world,” he said on 3AW. “He probably got, I don’t know, half a million bucks or something, and it was probably about $499,000 too much. “I reckon Meatloaf should be quiet … we get whacked a lot but I don’t think it’s fair coming from him.”"

Half a million for Meat Loaf sounds like a steal. Maybe if he took a paycut, they could have rented some more Aussie bikers. Either way, I hope this feud continues to grow. While we wait, here’s another picture of Meat Loaf during his performance.
