Aaron Rodgers Deadpans Response to Jamaal Charles Stealing Title Belt Celebration

Jamaal Charles did the Aaron Rodgers title belt (no, I’ll never call it Discount Double Check) celebration after a second quarter touchdown cut the Chiefs’ deficit to 14-7. This was an ill-advised decision because the last thing any of his opponents need is for Aaron Rodgers to have another chip on his shoulder. After the game, Rodgers was asked about the imitation, and quipped that a certain insurance company undoubtedly appreciated the attention.

At this point, it’s getting impossible to lump more superlatives on Rodgers, though one post-game quote stood out:

For the Packers and their fans, the primary hope now is that Rodgers stays healthy heading into the playoffs, where he’s been hobbled for the last two years (in 2014 it was nebulous for a time if he was ever cleared by a doctor for his return from a broken collarbone, and this past year he was on one leg). This has been a much better September than the last few for Green Bay, but recall that New England and Seattle weren’t firing on all cylinders this time last year, before ultimately meeting in the Super Bowl.

One of the more annoying things about watching sports now is how nobody ever shuts up about players’ legacies, even while they’re still active and in their primes. It’s premature to make any statement about where Rodgers ranks all-time when he still has a bit of time ahead of him (and this is not a shot at Tolzien, who was making a comparison to how Rodgers is playing right now, not totality). Rodgers has reached that mid-aughts Peyton Manning level where it feels like this is hardly a team sport anymore, and he’s decimating opponents by himself. Let’s all try to enjoy his health and superb play while we have it. There will be plenty of time to diagnose what it all means.
