MLB Postseason Pointless Celebration Rankings: New York Yankees Are #1

The Houston Astros eliminated the New York Yankees from the playoffs last night. The Astros beat the Yankees, 3-0, in New York. The Yankees’ postseason journey ended after one game. Still, the 2015 Yanks will always have that sweet champagne celebration after clinching the opportunity to play one postseason game. Which they lost. In front of their home crowd.

Let’s look back at the team’s improbable postseason run which was totally worthy of the same celebration NBA, NFL, and NHL teams reserve for those who win the championship.

Alex Rodriguez, the Yankees’ 39-year old clean-up hitter went 0-4 in the Wild Card game.

Here’s starting pitcher Masahiro Tanaka. The second-year pitcher took the loss in the Wild Card game, going 5 innings and giving up 2 solo home runs. Here he is celebrating the right to have a single mediocre outing in the postseason.

C.C. Sabathia literally checked into rehab the day after this picture was taken. He did not get a chance to pitch this postseason. Apparently, everyone wasn’t on the same drinking page.

Finally, we don’t have a picture of lead off hitter Brett Gardner celebrating, but we do have this quote. Feel the burn guys! You never know when you’ll feel it again! Or wear the goggles and see well enough to not go 0-4 with three strikeouts in the Wild Card game.

Before Yankees fans get too hurt, this type of post will run the morning after every team is eliminated from the playoffs. The fact that this sport has a strict unwritten code of conduct that discourages any show of emotion, yet teams who end up winning zero postseason games experience a champagne celebration every year is ridiculous. As the first team eliminated from the playoffs, the Yankees just happen to have the most pointless celebration of the year. Congratulations on nothing!
