Michael Mauti's Blocked Punt Was Remarkably Similar to Steve Gleason's

Michael Mauti’s blocked punt turned into a touchdown for the Atlanta Falcons last night. And it conjured up memories of Steve Gleason’s play — also against the Falcons — after Hurricane Katrina in 2006. New Orleans Times-Picayune photographer Michael DeMocker captured similar photographs of both.

Gleason happened to be in attendance at the Superdome last night to accept the George Halas Award he won over the summer.

"“That was probably the most electric sports venue I have ever been at,” Mauti said about being in the Superdome nine years ago for Gleason’s block. “I get goose bumps when I think about it, just a numbing sound. I have always looked up to Steve Gleason; he’s a hero of mine. It’s so special that he got to be here, and I grew up wanting to be like him.”"

The phrase “makes you think” has been co-opted by the sarcasm crowd but this one actually made me think.
