Desperate for Kicker, Florida Opens Tryouts to Student Body

Florida starting kicker Jorge Powell was injured in Saturday’s loss to LSU. The Gators now need a backup for Austin Hardin, who assumed the first-team duties.

And what better way to find a person capable of kicking field goals and extra point than via a tweet announcing open tryouts?

In addition to serving as a logical premise for an Air Bud: The College Years movie, this a fantastic way to show that kickers are important. Think about it. All of those finely tuned athletes on scholarship and not one of them can competently boot a stationary ball with accuracy?

Any reason to skip class is a good reason to skip class. But this is, like, a great reason to miss class. Here’s hoping all UF students with big dreams and a modicum of coordination put their best foot forward this week.
