Ryan Mallett missed the Texans’ flight to Miami and had to fly commercial for this past Sunday’s 44-26 drubbing. According to a report from Brian T. Smith in the Houston Chronicle, O’Brien wanted to cut the sulky quarterback before the game, but got overruled by team general manager Rick Smith. Then the team went out and laid an egg.

This type of thing probably happens behind closed doors more often than we realize, but the fact that the news emerged (presumably from O’Brien’s camp) makes you wonder how much longer the coach will be around. Earlier today, our site’s Jason Lisk ranked O’Brien as the third most likely coach in the league to lose his job. Reports of friction with the front office will do little to cool his seat.
