J.T. Barrett told officers he had nothing to drink on the night of his driving while impaired arrest and tried to use his status as Ohio State quarterback to avoid being taken in, footage obtained by TMZ shows.

Barrett, who was punished with a six-month suspension of his license and $400 fine, performed several field sobriety tests before eventually being handcuffed.

At one point he told officers he’s the Buckeyes starting quarterback and asked if there’s anything they can do for him.

Barrett immediately recognized the severity of the situation and can be heard swearing before telling police fellow quarterback Cardale Jones would be picking him up.

There will surely be people who take issue with the plea for “special treatment.” Those people need to take a look in the mirror and wonder if they’d have done the same thing in a similar position. This is certainly not to condone Barrett’s actions, but using anything on this video to further vilify him seems a bridge too far.
