With 2:51 to play and leading Texas by three points, Texas Tech lined up in the victory formation. The alignment didn’t make much sense considering the fact the Longhorns had two timeouts at their disposal. Taking three knees would have only bled the clock down to the two-minute mark — which is way too much time to give to a Big 12 offense.

But the Red Raiders knew what they were doing and ran a trick play to perfection. Quarterback Pat Mahomes took the snap and handed it off to wide receiver Jakeem Grant, who took it 40 yards into the end zone.

The score extended Texas Tech’s lead to 10 and allowed them to survive a late Longhorns touchdown.

Kliff Klingsbury said the play is called “Little People, Big World” and certainly seemed to enjoy watching it work as planned.
