Everett Golson was not in the Florida State travel squad for the Peach Bowl. Thus ends one of college football’s more notable, bizarre careers.

Golson led Notre Dame to a 12-0 regular season as a redshirt freshman in 2012. He missed the 2013 season at Notre Dame after an academic scandal. He returned to the Irish for 2014, spearheading both their hot start and late season collapse, eventually losing the starting job to Malik Zaire.

Florida State took Golson on as a graduate transfer for 2015. The Seminoles needed a quarterback. Golson needed a landing spot. Many were bullish about his prospects. Mia Khalifa was excited. He garnered serious Heisman talk. But, it soon became clear he was a poor fit for FSU’s offense. By Halloween, he had lost his starting job to Sean McGuire.

Golson’s  career was a disappointment. He never developed on the early promise. But, he had some great moments, which is more than many can say.
