Baseball’s ivory tower has weighed in, at news dump time on a random Wednesday in January. Ken Griffey Jr. and Mike Piazza have been elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame.

Those were the two names tipped, before the HOF’s website began adding more links.

Griffey was a 13-time all-star, arguably the best all around player in the sport at his peak, and a no-brainer. He finished with 630 home runs if you’re into countable stats. Piazza, bacne or no bacne, was perhaps the greatest hitting catcher of all-time.

Names left out again include…

  • Tim Raines – Excelled at getting on base and stealing them…in Montreal
  • Curt Schilling – Great at striking people out, not allowing walks or hits, and winning when it counted
  • Jeff Bagwell – Accuse him or put him in.
  • Roger Clemens – PED Allegations
  • Barry Bonds – PED Allegations
  • Alan Trammell – Better WAR than a lot of guys who are in.

Let the arguments begin.
