A 54-year-old Michigan man has offered to spend the night in the bedroom of a male high school senior and promised to follow him around at school the next day until he hears what he wants to hear.

The man, widely known for his very public outbursts of anger and love of wearing khaki pants, is doing this in an attempt to influence the student’s college choice.

"“He told me if I had a 6-foot-3 inch piece of carpet for him to sleep on, that would be enough,” [said the youngster]. “I said we have guest rooms, and he said ‘Tell you what, I’ll just sleep on the floor in your room.’ I said ‘I have [a school’s] all over my walls.’ He said, ‘Tell you what, I can help you take it down.’” “Under the exact rules, he’s going to be at my house at 12:01 he said. That’s when it’s legal for him to be at my house,” [the high schooler] said. “He said we can watch a movie, see how well we gel and he said he would sleep over after that. “I was in tears laughing when he said that. He said the next day, if my parents didn’t want me to miss school, he would go to every class with me and go to lunch with me. I was laughing so hard.”"

The kid’s parents had no comment.

That’d be weird, right? Like, such behavior would be alarming in most contexts. But guess what? It’s totally normal and the older man in the above scenario is totally not crazy because he’s Jim Harbaugh and his future sleepover partner is Quinn Nordin, the nation’s top placekicking prospect.

Nordin previously committed to Penn State but has made several visits to Ann Arbor.

While there’s no denying that Harbaugh is a different type of dude, there’s no doubt he knows what he’s doing. Since being hired at Michigan it seems as if he’s done everything in his power to “go viral.”

Harbaugh understands the importance of cultivating and maintaining the image of a slightly-crazed football savant. And if anyone’s going to appreciate the theatrics, it’s a kicker who announced his intention to play for the Nittany Lions from a private jet.

College football’s so-called offseason is off to a weird, yet somehow expected start.
