Nigel Hayes had 21 points and seven rebounds as Wisconsin beat Ohio State on Thursday night. The Badgers have won five in a row, which also includes victories over Indiana and Michigan State, and are all of a sudden fun to watch again. This was a turnaround that never felt inevitable. These were some highlights from Nigel Hayes’ postgame press conference:

  • His outfit
  • Used the word “disiderata” — meaning things wanted or needed — then at the end of the answer made sure to tell everyone to let ESPN’s Rece Davis (with whom he had a postgame interview) know he did it
  • “It’s a team game but I’ll be the lead singer in our rock band (my analogies are so good)”
  • “I don’t want to be compared to Frank [Kaminsky]. I don’t deserve that.”

At the end, Hayes, who’s from Ohio, asked how he felt about Wisconsin having three Ohio guys on the floor while Ohio State had none. “I’m cool,” he said. “They got the guys they wanted. I’ll take my two Final Four’s and my wins and I’ll carry on my merry way.”

Let’s hope this man has a seat at the table in March.
