Eagles Coach Doug Pederson May Want Nick Foles, Which is Hilarious on Every Level

Nick Foles, the former Arizona Wildcats QB whose NFL career was brought to life by Chip Kelly, can be summed up in this photo. He can’t stay healthy. Cement Shoes Foles got dinged up in Philly, and then in St. Louis last season, where he was so bad he was benched for Case Keenum.

Reminder: Nick Foles was a Chip Kelly creation. I don’t think it’s a stretch to say if Kelly hadn’t been the coach of the Eagles, Foles would still be a 3rd string QB somewhere looking for his first big payday. A 3rd round pick in 2012 by Philly’s then-bumbling tandem of Andy Reid and Howie Roseman, Foles put up a season to remember in 2013 replacing injured Mike Vick: 27 TDs, only two interceptions, and he led the NFL in passer rating and yards-per-attempt.

In hindsight, that was all Chip Kelly. The following year Foles returned to earth, but Kelly was able to trade him for Sam Bradford. (The Foles-Bradford swap is often bashed because Kelly had to toss in a draft pick, but don’t overlook the fact that Bradford had a good season, with career-highs in completion percentage and yards-per-attempt. He wasn’t a Top 15 QB in the NFL, but he was also coming off two ACL injuries and hadn’t played since October 2013. Foles was a mess.)

Bradford is now a free agent, and in a thin free agent QB market that’s led by Kirk Cousins (forget him, Washington won’t let him leave) and Ryan Fitzpatrick, Bradford will have suitors.

All of that leads to this: Adam Schefter tweeted that the Eagles could be interested in Nick Foles. When he was drafted by the Eagles, his QB coach was Doug Pederson! You know who the new Eagles head coach is, right?

What an offseason in Philadelphia. The unqualified Roseman is back, he’s going to run the front office, and hey, he might bring back Nick Foles!

It’s back to irrelevance, Eagles fans. Five wins would be considered a victory in 2016.
