Arian Foster Cut by the Texans, Given His Injury History and Age, is His Career Over?

Arian Foster, the Houston running back who missed 23 of 48 games over the last three seasons due to injury, has been released by the Texans.

Foster was due $7 million this year, the final one of the $43 million deal he signed in 2012.

In August, Foster will turn 30. He suffered an Achilles injury in October. At that time, I speculated he could wind up in Detroit or Denver. The problem, of course – besides his age and injury history – is that the running back market this offseason is loaded.

Matt Forte leads the way, but he’s followed by a lot of good free agents:

Chris Ivory (27), Jets
Doug Martin (27), Bucs
Bilal Powell (27), Jets
Lamar Miller (24), Dolphins
Alfred Morris (27), Redskins
CJ Anderson (25), Broncos

From 2010-2012 – right before he signed his new deal – Foster was one of the best backs in the league, scoring 41 TDs in that span and going over 1,200 yards in each season. He was very good in 2014 (4.8 ypc, 1,246 yards) but look at that list and tell me: Given the injury history and his age, are you taking Foster ahead of any of those guys?
