According to the Ithaca Voice, the alleged rape happened on February 15th, and Eaglin is alleged to have held his hand over the victim’s mouth and strangled her. Cornell police reportedly have a recorded interview in which they claim Eaglin confessed.

He was arraigned Monday and is in county jail on a $50,000 cash bail or $100,000 bond. This comes shortly after turmoil on the Yale University campus, after former captain Jack Montague was expelled from school and kicked off the basketball team. At Yale, the basketball team wore shirts in support of their teammate, and signs went up on campus decrying the rape culture, and the Women’s Center posted on Facebook about it.

The difference here is that it there has been a formal criminal charge brought, and Eaglin will be facing his day in court, and the prosecution will have to prove its case beyond a reasonable doubt. The Yale event appears to be completely under the purview of a Title IX investigation, which does not have the same burden of proof as a criminal case (there is no record of any criminal charges or investigation of Montague at Yale).
