People of Cleveland Have Spoken: Johnny Manziel is Greater Than Jim Brown

Cleveand.com is running a March Madness-inspired Cleveland Sports March Matchups bracket. The contest has four regions: one for the Browns, Indians, Cavaliers and Ohio State. It aims to do … something.

"Then we’ll crown a champ – of whatever. This isn’t greatest athlete or favorite athletes, and the 16 players in each region aren’t an attempt to find the greatest. There are some greats, for sure, plenty of them. There are also some interesting guys, some names you’ll want to vote for or against, and, in each region, a 16-seed we think fits the profile of the team that no one gives a chance."

It’s fun, timely content that also reminds Cleveland sports fans all is not lost.

The fan-driven vote has taken an immediate sharp turn. No. 16 seed Johnny Manziel has upset top-seeded Jim Brown in the Browns region.

That’s a blowout. Johnny Football earned almost 69 percent of the vote despite being asked to leave town recently. Less than a third of voters found any intrigue in Brown being one of, if not the best, running back of all-time.

Look, we all know how this is going to end.

Manziel will win five more votes and win the whole damn thing.

Normally we’d deride such irresponsible bracket high jinks but the guy could really use a victory right now. God knows when his next chance to claim any meaningful title will present itself.

So vote early and vote often to make what will arguably the best Cleveland sports moment in a half-century become a reality.
