Roger Federer learned the hard way that parenting is a full-contact sport. The 34-year-old tennis legend hurt his knee two months ago, that’s something to be expected at his age and after such a long career. But his injury had nothing to do with tennis, it came while performing parental duties.

Federer says he was preparing a bath for his twin daughters when he heard a “click” in his left knee. The notoriously durable 17-time Grand Slam winner was forced to have the first surgery of his career as a result.

"It was a simply movement, probably a movement I’ve done a million times in my life. I didn’t think much of it when it did happen."

The “click” was cartilage tearing in the knee and he required arthroscopic surgery to repair it. Federer will finally return to the court on Friday at the Miami Open.

While this certainly ranks as a “stupid sports injury” it’s not even close to being one of the worst. Heck, it’s not even in “Blake Griffin breaking his hand punching a guy” territory.

The lesson here is clear: never procreate don’t be an attentive father when you’re an athlete baths are far more dangerous than you think.
