Spring training, although more laid-back and less important than the regular season, is not without its obstacles. Primarily, roving swarms of bees seeking out big-money free agents.

The Cubs’ Jason Heyward found this out the hard way on Sunday when he was attacked and stung multiple times for the crime of minding his own business in the outfield. His attempts to gain relief included running all over the ballpark and climbing the outfield fence.

Sadly, the bees didn’t stop their assault until several minutes had passed.

Heyward, a tough guy, stayed in the game and proceeded to hit a home run in the bottom of the inning.

Hopefully the Cubs find an effective and humane way to prevent future bee-related incidents. The last thing we need is another mass insect genocide.
